How does a Robot Lawn Mower work?
Robotic lawn mowers are innovative machines that mow your lawn independently, saving you hours of free time. They work by cutting very small bits of grass at a time, which is then naturally recycled into your lawn as a healthy fertiliser.
Watch the short video below to see them in action:
Navigation
To ensure they're mowing in the right areas, most robot lawn mowers use a perimeter wire which is laid or buried around the edge of your garden. This helps your robot lawn mower to navigate precisely, e.g. around the edges of your flower beds, trees, or other obstacles. Some models also use object detection and GPS assistance to mow more efficiently.
Grass Clippings
Robot lawn mowers work by cutting tiny bits of grass at a time and mowing regularly to stay ahead of the growth. The fine grass clippings are naturally recycled into your lawn as fertiliser. This means the mower doesn't have to collect any grass (and you don't either).
Recharging
Your robotic lawn mower will recharge automatically by returning to the charging station. Husqvarna Automowers are battery powered and produce no direct emissions, so they're much better for the environment than petrol lawn mower alternatives.
Is it easy to use a Husqvarna Automower?
Robotic lawn mowers are a huge time saver and once installed, the Husqvarna Automower is very easy to own and operate. Installation can be a challenge, but at GardenTech we will support you throughout the installation project, whether you self-install or use our professional installation services.
Once your Husqvarna Automower is set up it will work independently to mow your lawn on a set schedule - giving you perfect lawns and saving you hours of free time every month. The grass clippings are small enough to be recycled into the lawn as natural fertiliser, so you don't need to handle or dispose of any grass at all.
Overall they are a huge time saver and will give you perfect lawns without the hassle of maintaining them yourself.
Are Husqvarna Automowers loud?
Husqvarna robot lawn mowers are surprisingly quiet. They operate at about 60db, which is equivalent to a normal conversation. You won't even notice it quietly cutting the grass and you can schedule it to work any time without disturbing your neighbours.
What impact do Automowers have on the environment?
Husqvarna Automowers are battery-powered and product zero direct emissions. This means they're much better for the environment than traditional petrol mowers. The actual energy consumption is also very low (less than a traditional 60W light bulb). What's more, because Automowers cut a little bit grass at a time, the fine grass clippings are recycled back into the soil as a healthy, natural fertiliser. The result is a greener, healthier lawn without using synthetic fertilisers.
What are the benefits of a boundary wire system?
It is a very robust and reliable system, making sure the mower always stays inside its boundaries, in all weather and garden conditions. It is also a very easy and visible way to set the boundaries.
Do I need to bury the wire in the ground?
No. The wire can be laid upon the ground using the supplied staples and will after some weeks be grown over and disappear in to the grass. A good tip is to cut the grass as short as possible at the perimeter in order to get the wire as close as possible to the ground. However, if you wish to bury the wire from the beginning, you can, the suggested depth is 3-10 cm.
Will I still need an ordinary lawn mower?
Unless you have areas in your garden that your robotic mower installation does not cover, you will not need an ordinary lawn mower when you have installed your Automower robotic lawn mower.
However, depending on how your installation is made, you may need to complement the edges with a trimmer to get the perfect finish for your lawn.
The basic rule is: what you can mow with a conventional mower you can normally mow with Automower. The convenience advantage may be limited in a very fragmented lawn, that is, if your lawn consists of many small patches of lawn separated by for example steps, as the mower has to be moved manually between them.
When installing the boundary, you just need to make sure that the mower cannot go to areas you do not wish to cut, such as flower beds and rockeries. Automower will go only where you want it to go – never in the street or into a neighbour´s garden.
Will Automower handle my uneven lawn?
Due to the large driving wheels, Automower can cope with uneven surfaces very well. It can also handle slopes (depending on the model, this ranges from XX to XX). Only small deep holes may cause Automower® to get stuck.
Can Automowers detect objects such as clothes or toys lying around the lawn?
Some models have an object avoidance feature which can detect objects on the lawn and cause the mower to turn to avoid them. However, it is advised for the owner to keep the lawn surface free from objects to avoid damage to the object, as well as damage to the machine’s blades. Make sure your lawn is clear of small objects before operating Automower.
I have a flower bed and trees that I want to protect. Is that possible?
Provided the boundary has been installed correctly around your flower bed, tree, shrub, or other object, Automower cannot damage it or intrude into that area.
Does the Husqvarna Automower have a theft alarm?
Yes. Automower has several theft protection systems that may be activated. Most important: Automower cannot be used without the personal PIN code. The installation lock prevents Automower from functioning on any other installation than your own. The time lock requests your four-digit PIN to be entered at an interval decided by yourself. The alarm requires the PIN code to be entered when Automower is stopped – or an audio alarm will go off. Also, Our X-line models are equipped with geofence tracking.
Can children or pets play on the lawn when Automower is working?
Even though Automower uses very low power, you can still cut your fingers or toes if they get in contact with the blade. A built-in safety feature means the blade will automatically stop if the mower is lifted or turned over. The distance between the outer body and the blade tip is also extra-long to avoid feet or hands from accidently reaching the blades. Even so, we recommend turning off Automower when small children and pets are on the lawn.
